The Summer Markets
The Saturday Dane County Farmers’ Market is conveniently located on the tree-lined grounds surrounding the State Capitol building—otherwise known as “the Square”—in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. The Wednesday Market is one block south of the square, in the 200 block of Martin Luther King Blvd. It’s easy to get to either market.
Many dedicated paths and bike-friendly routes into downtown Madison make it easy to get to the Farmers’ Market. Bring your backpack, saddle bags, or bike trailer to carry the many fresh and wonderful products available at the Dane County Farmers’ Market on the Square. Ample bike parking is available around the Capitol Square–and it’s free.
When you are a block or two from the Square you’ll be close by a number of municipal parking ramps. In addition there are private ramps in the vicinity as well. Ample street parking, most of which is metered, make it easy to park just a short distance from the market.
From the North
Exit Interstate 90/94 on to Highway 151, which becomes East Washington Ave. in Madison.
From the South
Coming from the South, exit Hwy 12/18 on to Park St. going north to W. Washington Ave. which leads to downtown.
From the East
Follow Highway 151, which becomes East Washington Ave. to the square.
From the West
Follow University Ave. headed east. It will turn into Campus Drive and then West Johnson Street. Stay on West Johnson Street until you cross State Street. Take the first right, which is Carroll Street and park in the State Street Capitol Garage.
The Winter Markets
In November the outdoor market moves indoors. There are two sessions; the Early Winter Market and the Late Winter Market. Both locations enjoy adjacent parking garages and ample off-street parking.See the schedule for changeover dates.
The Early Winter Market is held at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. A parking garage is located on site. The Late Winter Market, held at the Madison Senior Center, is just a few short steps from the Overture Center Garage.
A map of nearby parking ramps is shown below (click to enlarge). You can also access additional parking information as well as the City of Madison’s ‘Current Downtown Parking Availability’ page at www.cityofmadison.com/parkingutility/.
The maximum price for ramp parking during the Market (weekend rate) is usually $5. Occasionally the Market may coincide with a Special Event, in which case the pay-on-entry fee is $5.
