Local Food for Your Local Adventures
Posted on May 30, 2017 | General News
When the sunshine and warm weather arrive, there is an urge to do everything possible outside. Here are our recommendations for locally inspired and Wednesday Market-sourced fare for all your outdoor adventures!
Food for a hike
Did you know that this upcoming weekend (June 3-4) you can enjoy free entry to state parks and forests in Wisconsin? Grab your sunscreen, hiking boots, and a loot of energizing and tasty snacks from market this Wednesday (or Saturday!) to fuel a Sunday hike! Our picks: classic beef jerky or teriyaki snack sticks from Murph's and some chocolate-chip studded granola bars from Silly Yak Bakery.
Food for a picnic
For a picnic, you want foods that are easily transportable and don't involve too much silverware! This green bean and tomato salad would be delightful, especially paired with a unique 2 potato potato salad featuring sweet potatoes. Grab some crackers and cream cheese dips from Violet Rose Co., some cookies from Murphy Farms, and make a batch of iced sweet mint tea, and you are ready to bask in the sun.
Food for the porch
Your porch or backyard may not be the epitome of adventure - but it's certainly worth savoring when it is warm, breezy, and mosquito-free! Grill some flank steak with cilantro-based chimichurri sauce. Pair with some foil wrapped radishes thrown on the grill to caramelize. Don't forget: porch-eating doesn't have to be confined to dinner alone! Whip up some chilaquiles with fried eggs for a weekend brunch: be sure to grab fresh cilantro and radishes to slice thin to garnish.
Happy adventuring and eating!
