Food Scraps Collection Pilot Program

About the program
In an effort to reduce food waste, the Dane County Farmers’ Market has partnered with Green Box Compost to provide a food scraps collection pilot program at our Wednesday Market throughout the month of September. This program is made possible with funding from Dane County Department of Waste and Renewables 2022 Organic Waste Management Grant.
Pilot Program Collection Dates & Times:
Wednesdays, September 7, 14, 21 & 28, 2022
8:30am - 1pm
Located on the 200 block of MLK Jr. Blvd
How can I participate?
Visitors can drop off their food scraps for FREE at our Wednesday Market during the month of September. Look for the Green Box tent and signage near the Information Booth! Restaurant food waste will not be accepted.
How should I store my food scraps?
Any container can be used to hold your food scraps. Remember to remove any produce stickers, twist ties, or rubber bands.
Acceptable Items
- raw fruits, vegetables, and nuts - including pits and seeds
- eggshells
- coffee grounds & loose leaf tea
- grains & rice
- flowers
- houseplants
- meat - including bones
- cheese
Unacceptable Items
- milk
- oils/fats/grease
- pet droppings
- produce stickers
- bandages
- metal
- liquids
- twist ties
- sanitary wipes
- gum
