Thank you for placing your trust in the Dane County Farmers’ Market and FairShare CSA Coalition as primary ways to connect with local farmers and nourish yourself and your family with local foods all year long.
We have received inquiries from concerned community members asking how they can support small farmers during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are working to promote and support our farmers in converting their sales methods to home-delivery, e-commerce, and on-farm pick-up. Despite these moves, we are already seeing unprecedented economic impacts to our farmers' livelihoods due to COVID-19.
The DCFM and FairShare are committed to supporting our farmers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and there are key areas where you can help. We have established a GoFundMe Emergency Farmer Fund to assist farms whose income has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Farms will be able to apply funds to essential loan and mortgage payments to ensure they can stay on their land and keep their businesses afloat, as well as support employee wages.
Farmers who sell directly to consumers at farmers' markets and to institutions like schools and restaurants are facing closures that reduce or eliminate their income. The uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 outbreak further impairs farmers’ ability to plan for the future.
We hope to raise at minimum $5000 in 1 month, with the goal of providing ongoing disbursements to farm applicants as soon as sufficient funds are available.
Every donation matters and will help us keep our small farmers on their land and producing the quality, fresh foods that sustain us. The necessity of social distancing may make us feel far apart, but we can come together as a community at this difficult time.
