Grow Your Own

Both our Wednesday and Saturday Markets are bursting with plants and we are feeling the gardening bug! This is the perfect time of year to select a hanging basket for your porch and vegetable and herb plants for your garden. We asked some of our nursery growers at Wednesday Market what they most highly recommend of what they grow - here is what they shared:
The Ace pepper - it is reliable, prolific, and early to bear fruit! - Lynn Bednarek of Stenrud Greenhouse
For a red slicer tomato, the Winsall - it is an 1808 heirloom from America - very reliable and very delicious. Also would recommend the Caspian Pink tomato - it is a paler red tomato that has been beating Brandywine in taste tests! - Mary Carpenter of Carpenters' Farm

I'd recommend our Florida Petite. It is a micro dwarf cherry tomato that produces like crazy! It is perfect to plant in a 1 gallon pot. - Carol Knapp of Knapp's Fresh Vegies
Dahlias for the patio. Also sun coleus - it is very low maintenance, works in sun or shade! - Gordy Kopke of Kopke's Greenhouse

We are really loving our dinner plate dahlias that are blooming right now. - Natalie Ortega of Natalie's Garden & Greenhouse
