Kitchen Manager & Chef: Laurel Burleson
Laurel Burleson has been cooking in professional kitchens for the past 18 years. She grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and got a degree in Hospitality Management from Northern Michigan University. After graduating, she moved to Chicago where she worked in fine dining restaurants, bistros and a major convention hotel. Five years age she moved to Madison with her husband, Travis, and two years ago she opened her business, The Ugly Apple. The Ugly Apple opened as a food cart with the mission of buying seconds and overstock produce from local farmers to minimize food waste. More recently, it has expanded into jams, all natural fruit leathers and catering with the mission still at its core. She is so excited to contribute to the DCFM winter market and work with the amazing farmers we have here!
Operations Coordinator: Heather Ferguson
Heather Ferguson has worked in a variety of roles over her career--ranging from journalism to fitness instructor to college admissions, course support, teaching, and new student orientation. Yet all of these experiences have had a few core threads--building community and providing welcoming and educational experiences. It is for this reason that Heather is thrilled to be working with the Taste of the Market Breakfast. She hopes you'll stop by, say hi, and say "thank you" to the many community volunteers who help make this event possible!
Kitchen Assistant: Amy Dubruiel
Hi, I'm Amy. This year I started with the breakfast crew as the kitchen assistant. I work for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as a recycling compliance specialist during the rest of the week. I do a fair amount of camping, fishing, and hiking. In this picture I'm enjoying a beautiful view from the sandbar on the Wisconsin River!
